This not-for-profit organisation brings children to Australia from developing countries for profoundly life-changing, or life-saving surgery that cannot be done in their country of birth. I have worked on many design projects with Children First over a number of years, including direct mail, event invitations and website design.
Annual Report: It is the smiling faces of the children that motivates this amazing organisation and its supporters. The Children First logo features a smile and I decided to extend upon this icon for their annual report. The front cover features the smile from the Children First logo made out of play dough, photographed in the hands of 6 year-old Emai from Papua New Guinea. The play dough theme reminds us that children all around the world can share the same happy pastimes when given the opportunity to live healthy and happy lives.
The challenge for a not-for-profit organisation is to produce materials that look professional without looking expensive. We kept costs down by printing full colour for the cover only, keeping the internal pages to two colour print. The duotone treatment on the photographs also helped bring unity to photos from a variety of sources, avoiding the need for a costly new photography shoot.
